POLITICS IN VENEZUELA
After the Referendum

THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2004

On the evening of Thursday, August 19, join Community Language and Culture Bank and the PSU Multicultural Center for a retrospective forum on last weekend’s recall election in Venezuela. Featuring Dr. Shawn Smallman, Director of International Studies at PSU and local Venezuelan community members, this event will examine the referendum on Hugo Chavez's presidency and explore "what happened" from a variety of perspectives.

Professor Shawn Smallman is the Director of International Studies and noted scholar of Latin American politics. He received his Ph.D. in history from Yale University. He has published numerous articles on Latin America. His first book, Fear and Memory in the Brazilian Army and Society, 1889-1954, received many positive reviews. His second book, A History of AIDS in Latin America, will be published by the University of North Carolina Press.
