SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2004
12:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Portland State University, Multicultural Center
Smith Memorial Student Union - Second Floor (SW Broadway &
Montgomery)
Lunch Provided
The Director of the National American Slaves Foundation,
Donna Wyant Howell, will speak on slavery at Portland State
University on February 27 and 28. Come and hear what American
history books never taught us about the history of slavery.
Donna Wyant Howell is a researcher who specializes exclusively
in slave narratives on a full-time basis. She is the compiler
of numerous best-sellers in the book series, "I Was A
Slave." These books are written entirely in former slaves'
own words, and contain a dialect glossary, a terminology section,
and photos of former and working slaves. Her "In the
Words of America's Noble Ancestors" column uses actual
verbal language from former slaves to explain events that
are currently affecting the United States and is published
in over 200 newspapers biweekly. Saturday's topic will be
"Women in Slavery."
